About

"If you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted in pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days."
~ Annie Dillard

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction."
~ E.F. Schumacher

Hello, and welcome to The New Me.
Our goal is to live a simple life, which is not as easy as it sounds. Too often, we rush through the hours of the day, trying to get everything done, only to fall asleep, worn out and dreaming of the day we can do whatever we want. But "someday" isn't enough, and so we're looking for balance, figuring out how to work hard, accomplish our goals, while still finding the time to appreciate our lives as we live them.

This blog is part of that process. Here, you'll find posts and musings that seek out and celebrate every day wonders and small joys - sitting on the porch and drinking wine while it rains, raising chickens and collecting fresh eggs each morning, baking bread on cool autumn days, swimming in the ocean on hot summer nights,  harvesting fresh vegetables from our humble garden, coaxing honey from our bees, thick books, yoga and running,  love, friendship, dogs, and endless mugs of coffee. Because these are the small events that make a lifetime of adventure, if we remember to pay attention. We want to remember. We need to pay attention.

Who We Are
Chrissy and Nathan. Together since 2002, married on November 10, 2012. We've lived in New York, Texas, and North Carolina. She's in the middle of her second graduate program, earning an MFA in creating writing, and he's a paramedic-in-training, preparing for the apocalypse on the side. In our rare spare time, we play with our dogs, Seamus and Calvin, experiment in homesteading, kayak on the ocean, camp on the beach, drink a lot of cheap red wine, and invite friends over for bonfires in our backyard. If you're ever in town, come on by.

Chrissy writes 99% of what you'll read on the blog; Nathan contributes occasionally, and usually gets a million hits with his popular how-to posts. Most of our adventures are shared, which is just the way we like them.
