"If you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted in pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days."
~ Annie Dillard
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction."
~ E.F. Schumacher
Hello, and welcome to The New Me.
My goal is to live a simple life, which is not as easy as it sounds. Too often, we rush through the hours of the day, trying to get everything done, only to fall asleep, worn out and dreaming of the day we can do whatever we want. But "someday" isn't enough, and so I'm looking for balance- figuring out how to work hard and accomplish my goals, while still finding time to enjoy life as it's lived.
This blog is part of that process. Here, you'll find posts that seek and celebrate every day wonders and small joys - sitting on the porch and drinking wine while it rains, raising chickens and collecting fresh eggs each morning, baking bread on cool autumn days, and swimming in the ocean on hot summer nights. You'll also find to-do lists, goals big and small, updates on writing projects, financial meltdowns, and dreams for the future. It's about the balance, remember?
I'm Chrissy, a New Yorker, turned Texan, currently living in North Carolina. I'm in my last year of an MFA program, studying fiction, and working on my first novel. I live with my husband, Nathan, our two giant dogs, Seamus and Calvin, eight chickens, and one beehive. I love writing, reading, running, yoga, wine, animals, board games, teaching, and spending as much time at the beach as possible. I try to keep things simple and err on the side of kindness whenever possible.
