Hey there!

I'm Chrissy, a writer and reader currently living in coastal North Carolina. By day, I'm a digital marketing manager with an MFA in creative writing. Early in the mornings, I'm working on a novel and a collection of short stories (some of which you can read here). I live with my husband Nathan, a fat dog named Calvin, 17 chickens, two beehives, and a tiny garden that doesn't get nearly enough sunlight.

About the blog.

I've been blogging for over ten years as a way to record, collect, examine, share, observe, and celebrate. For most of that time, my blog was strictly personal - no niche, no advertising, no business plan. Then I turned 30 and suddenly, writing long-winded posts about my weekends wasn't quite so alluring. My blog slowed down. Weeks went by without a post. I wanted to write and share and connect, but I didn't know what to write about.

I spent some time thinking about what I wanted to do with this space and what I felt comfortable sharing. In the end, I came to a compromise. I'd still write about my life, but I'd do it through the lens of my passions and experiences. As a 30-something woman who just figured out how to budget, those experiences include living well on a budget, homesteading in a rental home, and embracing life's small pleasures.

It should go without saying that I'm grateful for all the friends and strangers who have read here over the years. You are all very patient and incredibly beautiful.

Where to start?

A lot has happened since I began this blog way back in 2005, when I was just 22 years old (!!!). Below is a short list of my favorite and/or most popular posts since then. I will add to and update this page sporadically.
